You will enjoy epic stories of the region’s voyaging history and its Māori ancestors without leaving the harbour. Take a journey through time with our local storytellers while on board the waka.

Discover Our Voyaging History

Time: 1.5 Hours

90 minute Cultural Experiences runs twice a week plus two sessions on days that cruise boats are in town.

Cost: $50 Per Adult | $25 Child (5-15) | $125 Family of 4

- Only 30 tickets available per session!

Availability: All year round. Weather dependent.

What to bring: Warm clothing, comfortable footwear, sun hat, sunglasses, camera.

No High heels / stilettos.

Sailing Experience

Join us on board the Waka Hourua ‘Tairāwhiti’ (historic canoe) for an experience like no other.

Get involved, “buddy up” with crew members to learn traditional sailing and wayfinding skills out in the bay. We’ll need all hands on deck to steer and sail our 22 m / 72 ft waka!

  • Learn how to man the “hoe” steering paddle, hoist the sails and tack!

Experience our waka on the ocean

Time: 3 Hours

Sailing Experiences run for 3 hours most Saturdays at 9.30am.
Weather permitting.

Cost: $75 Per Person - Only 15 tickets available per session!

Availability: All year round. Weather dependent.
